Now March Madness is in full effect and its not just about Basketball. Around March the Complete line up of Summer Indies and Blockbusters will be out full force with trailers and Posters. So here is my list of THE Summer '09 Movies that are must sees.. Plus some duds i put just to think about before you spend $12.50!!
Early Summer Preview:
April
Fast & Furious: 4/3/09
Now to open up the Flood gates we begin with Fast & Furious... Now my mind is saying enough already because of the unsuccessfulness of Tokyo Drift. With there ridiculous notion that American Southern Charm and Bravado would work in the Streets of the Triad ridden Tokyo.... It just didnt sit well with me. But my stomach is saying Dominc Torreto is coming back full force and i dare say i'm excited.. not to mention the newly released prisoner Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster are reprising there roles, But the problem for me lies with Paul Walker, what more could they possibly write in for him... Hopefully he i'snt going "undercover" again cause thats a little played. Hopefully he is teaming up for some more illegal shenanigans.
Dragonball Evolution: 4/8/09
You know this one is not for me... Maybe its that i am purely bias because i am a beloved fan of Dragonball, Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT. So lets start with the Casting WHO in the name of all thats holy is Justin Chatwin and why is he in the lead role?? First off he has dirty blonde hair and we all know Goku has Jet black hair and a tail but lets not go into that.... Bulma being played by Emma Rossum (The Phantom of the Opera Chick) is Green haired but this Bulma has Black hair with some streaks... I know i know i am being a little technical but there are just certain things you stick too, Next Piccolo is being played by James Marsters i am going to give James a chance because i love him as Spike from my Buffy the Vampire Slayer days. Now the only person i am not having issues with is Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi. But wait aren't there a few important characters missing?? YES where is Goku's and Bulma's best friend Krillin and what kind of action movie would it be without a love interest where is Goku's love and future wife Chi-Chi... Two key characters not even involved i am not even curious about this one. Its a total PASS.
Crank: High Voltage: 4/17/09
To think we couldn't imagine Jason Statham doing anything other then shooting people while riding around in an Audi A4 or shooting people walking around with a bad heart... What do you Know he is doing it again.... I wonder how it will start probably fade in to him in a hospital not remembering how he got there but then a sudden flash a pain makes him remember he fell out of a helicopter... God i hope thats not it... but hey its entertaining unrealistic action... So why the hell not.
Fighting: 4/24/09
Hmm... Looks like a Fight Club remake with Channing Tatum and Terrance Howard. But the Guy from Step-Up? he will never make out of the chesy shit... Poor kid he is hot thought.
The Mutant Chronicles: 4/24/09
Thomas Jane and Ron Pearlman (HellBoy) thats all i got.
May
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: 5/1/2009
May starts of with a bang with this in my opinion not anticipated story to the life and trials of Wolverine. Now you would think that for This one they would stick to the Comic Book Folklore but i'm not sure. The only comparing i have is to the Garbage they passed of as the final X-Men and that makes me a bit skeptical, Another factor being Scott Summers is in the film making it ridiculous because Wolverine doesn't meet Scott until years, years later. So i will see and talk about it later....
Star Trek: 5/8/2009
This is highly anticipated for me... oddly enough because i wasn't a Trekie or even watched the show but the preview is enough for anyones blood to boil... This to me seems to be perfectly casted all the way down to Eric Bana as Nero... He has alot to make up for i.e. (The Hulk). So i hope its visually stunning and neck hair raising cause i am READY!
Angels & Demons: 5/15/09
The prequel to The DaVinci Code. Now don't you just love a film with a little controversy so here is the scoop The Vatican and the Pope would not allow Ron Howard to shoot anywhere on the grounds, Now the premise is simple Robert Langdon is trying to uncover a plot. the Illumanti plans to destroy or even conform the day the new pope is to be announced. Now why would the church be mad? Who knows, But Ron Howard beat the whole system and got what he needed to give us Angels & Demons. This is a must see.
Terminator Salvation: 5/21/09
Now for sheer curiosity sake i want to see the latest Terminator. Not because Christian Bale blew his top way off , mainly because this post Apocalyptic world is looking pretty awesome. Check out the Trailer one more time get past all the action and the talking and look how the world looks when its coming to an end. Think on that.
June
Taking of Pelham 1 2 3:
John Travolta is a Bad Ass again... I knew he had it in him. Facing the death of your child is difficult and we wish him the best, and i think with this Remake he has got it. Its always good to have Denzel as the cream in your coffee in this twisted heist. So hopefully the remake lives up to the original and for now i am going to leave you with my favorite quote from the trailer. " You do what you have to do... But we need milk , So on your way home i want you to bring a gallon... Half a Gallon i will get a Half a Gallon".
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 6/24/09
Do i need to say anything but Thank you Michael Bay, for sticking to the simple story that surrounds Transformers and making it into sweet CGI awesomness... Nope thats it!
July
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs & Public Enemies: 7/1/09
Now the First and "Unofficial" July 4th movies (which can always change) are seeming to be one for the kids and one for the adults. Now we all love Ice Age.... i cannot get enough of the squirrel and the nut bit, But if you parents can leave your kids in the theatre and take a look at Johnny Depp the lost love my life as sexy criminal John Dillenger in the deceptive, crazy, cat and mouse chase across the United States you wont regret it... CHECK IT OUT PEOPLE
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: 7/17/09
This is my favorite book of the series I just cannot wait to see it after the writers strike ruined my plan to see it in November!!!!
August
G.I Joe Rise of the Cobra: 8/7/09
Well if you cant Beat them join them, I am in the dark in which way the will go with this one, i mean they did a great job in casting some fairly unknowns and some you didnt think had it in them.. Example Sienna Miller i mean we always see her as the pretty fashionista who everyone is dying to lay... Now she is going to the total shooting people badass that people are trying to lay, But the real shocker here is Marlon Wayans like where the hell has he been and nice job getting a role in this in my opinion pretty well put together cast, we don't know how the writing is but as always time will tell.... Toss-Up
Inglorious Basterds: 8/21/09
If the title isn't appealing enough to you just think Quentin Tarintino Nazi Movie... It should settle in your soul that in no way is this piece of cinema supposed to be accurate or in anyway a take on any kind of "war life". It is what it is and what Quentin does SO WELL, Gives us sheer entertainment and a another way to look at life in a form of potty mouth men, gratuitous violence and monolouges with underlying tones of how this world is today. I hope that this is the last film to wrap up Summer Movies because its going to be a big one... I mean come Brad Pitt who hasn't used his mid west accent since Thelma and Louise (Benjamin Button does not count). Its will shock and thrill us all and i cannot wait!.
This List is Subject to change cause Movie Houses and Productions Companies Suck like that. Oh and Below are a Few Honorable Mentions that you should check out on your own time..... So until next time.. Coco Out
